Eva Tilley is a ‘not for profit’ community residential aged care facility located in Balwyn North, a suburb of Melbourne. It currently has 80 aged care beds of which 20 beds are relatively new. The remaining 60 beds were constructed in the 1960’s and as a consequence of the design may not have passed Commonwealth Certification beyond 2008. The redevelopment entails replacing the older buildings (60 beds) with new 2-storey buildings (Stage 1). In addition a new 2-storey wing containing 31 new beds (Stage 2) is to be constructed. The resident mix is both low and high level care (i.e. ageing in place). The general design comprises 3 x 2-storey wings with up to 16 single bedrooms (and en’suites) on each level which are connected to central communal spaces (Lounge/Dining). Each level (total 46 beds) can be managed from a single staff base. In addition to the bed based services there will be a new commercial laundry and new administration offices which will now be accessed from Burke Road. The building aesthetics are based on the ‘Neighbourhood Urban Character’ with a blend of 1960’s – 1970’s residential style architecture and the use of some more modern materials. |
